QuesCom launches the first GSM gateway for IP telephony

Reduces the cost of landline-to-mobile calls by 50 per cent

Paris, Monday, July 7, 2003:

QuesCom, the European voice and data specialist, today announced the launch of the QuesCom 400 IP/GSM - the first ever IP GSM gateway designed to work in all IP Telephony environments. The solution, which has been unveiled after extensive testing with leading vendors such as Cisco, provides the opportunity for companies that have selected IP Telephony solutions to make immediate reductions to their phone bills.

In order to remain competitive, companies must be able to maintain contact with their customers and employees. In an age of mobile communications, this frequently means calls must be made from landlines to GSM networks. The problem faced by businesses is that these calls are extremely expensive, and can account for 40 per cent of their total phone bills.

This situation is changing, as there is mounting industrial and political pressure for the cost of landline-to-mobile calls to be cut by 45 per cent over three next three years. However, even if the three proposed annual cuts of 15 per cent are adopted in the UK, it will still take companies more than three years to make the same savings that are available straight away by deploying QuesCom 400 IP/GSM.

The QuesCom 400 IP/GSM allows companies to make these savings on their phone bills straight away, and independently of legislation, by converting landline-to-mobile calls to mobile-to-mobile calls, which cost far less to make. The solution achieves this by intelligently detecting when a mobile call is made on the IP-PBX, and re-routing it seamlessly through a GSM network.

As the QuesCom 400 IP/GSM contains up to six GSM channels, cost saving calls can be made simultaneously - however, if all channels are in use, the IP-PBX can be configured to re-route calls through the PSTN network, if required. In addition, the QuesCom 400 IP/GSM is fully scaleable - allowing companies of any size to benefit from the solution's cost-saving functionality. The QuesCom 400 IP/GSM can also be integrated fully with versions 3.2 and 3.3 of Cisco's CallManager software in order to further support end-user communication requirements.

Teddy Théanne, UK Country Manager for QuesCom comments: "QuesCom has a history of providing cost saving benefits to customers with traditional PBXs, and is currently working with IP customers on a similar range projects. This means all businesses, regardless of their telephony infrastructure can look to QuesCom for the means to make immediate reductions to their phone bills, and to increase the overall responsiveness and quality of their communications."
