QuesCom enables channel to rejuvenate ISDN PBXs

QuesCom400 Offers Simple PBX Upgrade for Cost-Effective Access to IP Telephony and Advanced PBX Functionality

Paris, Tuesday, October 8, 2002:

QuesCom, the European voice and data specialist, today announced its launch into the UK enterprise market with the QuesCom400 communications server. The server simply plugs into any ISDN PBX telephone system to add a range of new IP Telephony functionality including: VoIP, intelligent routing for external fixed-line and fixed-to-mobile calls, and advanced business communications functionality (including unified messaging and full integration with MS Outlook). In the UK, the product will be sold entirely indirectly, and QuesCom are currently recruiting both data and comms channel partners.

“In the current economic climate, selling pure VoIP has been surprisingly difficult, despite the clear cost savings for users,” comments Peter Cameron, UK Channel Director at QuesCom. “Convincing customers to buy a completely new IP telecoms infrastructure has been virtually impossible. They are looking to extend the life of, and the return from, existing hardware investments, and this is exactly what the QuesCom400 does. It updates the functionality of any PBX, not only giving users cost effective access to VoIP, but also to a wide range of other time and cost saving technologies.”

In contrast to many other IP telephony solutions, the QuesCom400 is designed to be simple to implement. There is no need for any new telephone hardware, and staff can retain the same direct dial extensions. Companies can also migrate to VoIP in stages, changing over in a more controlled way, to regulate the impact on network bandwidth. When there are problems with bandwidth at peek times, the QuesCom400 ensures call continuity by re-routing calls over the standard (PSTN) telephone network.

But the new communications server offers far more than VoIP. The QuesCom400 also provides intelligent call routing for external calls, providing massive savings on expensive fixed-to-mobile calls, by automatically routing calls over the correct GSM network via SIM cards installed in the server.

In addition, the server adds unified messaging functionality and integration with Outlook, where this is not available in the original PBX. This includes single telephone numbers for fixed-line, mobile, fax and voicemail; fax and voicemail as email attachments for easy sorting and storage; sending SMS messages from email; and a simple user-friendly interface.
