Lucent Technologies and QuesCom have announced that they are working together to build an end-to-end Voice over IP (VoIP) solution for service providers, based on the highly scalable Lucent Softswitch and QuesCom's SmartIAD®, (Smart Integrated Access Device).
By combining the Lucent Technologies Softswitch and QuesCom SmartIAD®, service providers can offer IP voice services to residential and enterprise customers having traditional PBXs in their premises. The Lucent-QuesCom solution will integrate the traditional end points (PRI/BRI) with IP ones and provide rapid revenue generating opportunities for Service Providers as they look to deploy new IP offerings for their customers cost effectively without requiring intensive implementation of an IP backbone.
The combined solution is available for evaluation immediately, and will be generally available for full customer deployment in the last quarter of 2002. Both H.323 and SIP are among the supported protocols. The two companies have already performed extensive interoperability testing for market implementation.
